Driveway Grading

Gravel Driveway Grading and Repair in Southern NH.

Over time gravel driveways will require maintenance. Using a couple different attachments, re-grading and smoothing out a driveway can be done quickly and inexpensively.

There are several different ways to go about fixing up a gravel driveway.

  1. A simple raking over the gravel surface to re-distribute the surface material. Raking a dirt driveway is the easiest and fastest method to make it smooth again, however it will also hold up the shortest amount of time.
  2. Starting with a Box Blade Scarifier/Scraper and finishing with a rake. A box scraper will dig into the first few inches of a gravel driveway and carry some material along with it allowing you to fill low spots as you go. Scraping is about one half the speed of raking so a driveway that would take an hour to rake will generally take about 3 hours to scrape and rake. With the scarifer teeth, I have seen 1' rocks pulled out. This solution will last longer than just a raking and will also fix some of the problem areas (low spots etc.).
  3. For a complete refurbish of a gravel driveway, we start with a box blade scraping then add base material. With a new uniform base material the gravel driveway can be reshaped and crowned to allow for good drainage. This is the solution that will fix/cover most pre-existing problems as well as last the longest. The cost will vary depending on machine time and materials needed.

If you do have us over to fix the driveway, keep in mind that the tractor with 4WD, a bucket and several other attachments available, is a super handy tool. Think of anything else you would like to get done while the machine is there.
